The Sittingwell® back support cushion is back

Sittingwell Cushion on a deep cream chair. Drapped over the back of the chair is a union jack cushion cover and leaning against the back of the chair is a Sittingwell back support for the sofa and deep chairs similar to the one it is displayed on. The Sittingwell cushion does just look like a white square - the inside of a cushion before the cover goes on, that's the magic of it, no one ever knows and your home looks as fab as ever

… and still going strong years later

When we recently relaunched the Sittingwell® back support cushion, it marked the end of a two-and-a-half-year-long search to find the right manufacturer after our previous one retired.

We never expected it to take so long.

It’s the unique combination of an orthopaedic product with homeware, which is the whole purpose of the product, so it looks great in your home, which has ironically been the core of the problem.

We would not be defeated and so continued our search alongside relocating and restarting our well-being therapy business in our beloved new area in South Somerset.

Just as we were wondering if it was time to throw in the towel, we had a chance conversation with a local business owner  who mentioned a local upholstery firm that would have the skills and resources to do what we needed.

After many months of checking and ensuring that the original quality of the Sittingwell® cushion could be maintained, we were pleased to announce that we’re back in production.

At that point, we were simply pleased to be able to offer it again. After letting our waitlist know, we spread the word through our main newsletter and social media. What we didn’t expect was the response that followed.

Still supporting backs nearly a decade later

As soon as we started talking about the relaunch, we began hearing from people who had bought the original Sittingwell® cushions.

Many of them are still using those same cushions today.

Some of those original cushions are now around nine years old, and are still providing the support they were designed to give.

We have always been focused on producing a quality product, so to have that proof mirrored back felt very special.

So what did those reviews from happy customers say?

“I love my Sittingwell cushion. It’s lasted ages and remains supportive and fits any chair I want to use it in. Wouldn’t be without it.”

“I still have mine and think it’s brilliant.”

“My back loves my Sittingwell cushion. Great on a sofa but also brilliant when I’m reading in bed.”

“These cushions are great. They give excellent back support and look great. I’ve had mine for more than 5 years and they are as good as new”

“I have purchased 9 of the Sittingwell back support cushions for family… they provide the support where it is needed, keep their shape… highly recommend the product.”

“This has allowed me back on the sofa with my wife rather than on the floor with a lumbar roll on my own.”

“Well done ladies these cushions are a must for anyone needing more comfort and support when sitting on the sofa. Made a real difference to my ‘twitchy leg’ syndrome.”

What that means in terms of value?

When looking at a back support cushion, the price can be something people consider carefully.

The Sittingwell® cushion is priced at £125 for the feather padded version and £115 for the polyester one. On first appearances, that can look like a big investment.

When you look at it over the time-frame from the people who bought the cushions in the reviews, the cost breaks down from previous customers:

  • A feather Sittingwell® cushion works out at around 4p per day.
  • The polyester version comes in at just over 3p per day.

We may be biased, but we think that is incredibly good value.

Back support where you actually need it.

This is a picture that was taken in a home. In the background and slightly out of focus is a chair side on in a window with a dog snoozing with his head resting on the arm of the chair. In the foreground is a woman sat on a dark crea sofa. She is sat side on to the camera with her hand resting on the side of the sofa. She is wearing dark blue jeans and a black cardigan. She is sat against a sittingwell back support cushion for the sofa. What is transposed over the top of the photo is a purple illustration of how the sittinwell back support is contoured within the cushion. Then there is an image of a spine which is overlaid to where they would be on this ladies body. The pelvis is 'sat down' as it were with the rest of the spine aligned perfectly. The demonstrates how well the Sittingwell cushion helps you to sit on your sofa. Interestingly when we compared this photo to the one where she is just sat against a normal cushion without the support it is very apparent that her posture is significantly better.

The original idea behind the Sittingwell® cushion hasn’t changed.

It was created to provide effective back support on sofas and chairs where posture is often compromised, while still fitting into a home environment without looking out of place.

Being able to bring it back into production, and to see that the original cushions are still being used years later, has made up for some of the struggle of the last few years.
